The Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2 is a compact, rugged geotagging accessory designed specifically for Canon’s EOS camera system. It automatically records location information including latitude, longitude, altitude, direction, and Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) directly into the EXIF data of photos and videos as you shoot. Connectivity is versatile, supporting both hot shoe and USB terminal attachment on compatible EOS bodies, and the unit shares the same dust- and weather-resistant construction as the EOS 5D Mark III when mounted via the hot shoe.

Beyond in-camera geotagging, the GP-E2 can function entirely as a standalone GPS logger, storing location data at user-selectable intervals (every 1, 5, 10, 15, or 30 seconds, or 1, 2, or 5 minutes) that can later be applied to images using Canon’s Map Utility software. An onboard electronic compass driven by a triaxial geomagnetic and acceleration sensor displays orientation even when detached from a camera, and a built-in clock allows automatic time-syncing of the host camera. Running on a single AA-type battery, the GP-E2 draws no power from the camera itself, enabling extended shooting sessions without impacting the camera’s battery life.
