Description

The Sigma DP1 is a landmark camera in digital photography history, introduced in 2008 as one of the world’s first true pocketable compacts to feature an APS-C-sized sensor. At its heart lies the revolutionary FOVEON X3 Direct Image Sensor paired with the TRUE image processor. Unlike conventional Bayer-pattern sensors that interpolate color, the FOVEON X3 captures full red, green, and blue spectral data at every single pixel location using three vertically stacked layers, producing unmatched pixel-level micro-contrast, color depth, and three-dimensional realism.

Custom-designed for this sensor, the fixed 16.6mm f/4 lens (28mm equivalent) features a 6-element, 5-group optical design with an aspherical element, delivering razor-sharp performance edge-to-edge. Its classic 28mm wide-angle perspective makes it a favorite for landscape, fine art, architecture, and street photography. Photographers can capture 12-bit lossless-compressed X3F RAW files, which unleash incredible resolution and medium-format-like detail when processed in Sigma Photo Pro.

Enclosed in a slim 30.3mm-thick metal chassis with full P/S/A/M manual controls, a manual focus dial, and a flash hot shoe for optical viewfinders, the Sigma DP1 offers a deliberate, tripod-friendly, and purist photographic experience. It remains an iconic collector’s item and an irreplaceable choice for fine-art photographers seeking the unique image rendering of original FOVEON technology.
